Snook Tips
Where to Look for Snook
Snook are found in all types of water, from salt water to freshwater. When you want to go snook fishing, check out the shorelines, inlets and estuaries, in the vicinity. In addition to that, they prefer cover, so look for docks or mangrove trees and rock formations. Setting up a bait near these areas can improve your chances at catching a snook.Snook are most often found in shallow water areas.
Night Time
At night you can find Snook in backwater canals and bridges underneath the lights. Remember, don't get tunnel vision on the trying to catch the Snook you see in the light.Yes you may catch them but it's the Snook that you cant see lurking in the shadows that will make your night.
When fly fishing these fish at night try to match what they are eating. When you get settled on a light take a minute to observe whats going on before you just start making casts.
Snook on the beach
Snook will be cruising in the surf on the beaches in the summer months.Usually between late April through September. These fish will gather there to spawn. The best way to catch these fish will be with live bait. Flies also work very well. Start by walking the beach and try to spot them. They can be very shallow and sometimes you can get a look at one riding in a wave. Get ahead of the fish and present your bait or fly. The water is usually very clear on our beaches so remember they can probably see you. I try to wear light colored clothing to blend in with the sand. Another important tip( If your feet are wet, your to deep)Stay as far back from the fish as possible.
